Entry 59
I was awoken again by thunder last night. After awhile I finally walked out and opened the door to see. It might be the most amazing thing I have ever seen. The sheer volume of lightning was magnificent. Had I not already lost power, I suspect this storm would have done it. I wonder if anyone else was out there watching the storm. It felt like the wrath of nature incarnate. Perhaps it realized it once again has absolute control with humankind all but extinct.
As the sun rose the lightning gave way to some of the largest hail I have ever seen. A few pieces were as large as golf balls. I wonder what could have caused the violent weather. Suppose the few humans left cannot do much more than wonder a moment before the reality of surviving snaps our minds back.
The crazy hail, lightning, and wind encouraged me to stay inside for the day. Getting soaked in the rain did not seem like fun, especially with how chilly it has become. Instead I went back through my supplies just to triple check what I had. For some odd reason going through what I do have helps me feel a bit more at ease with what I do not. As I was looking at the flashlights I had a moment of brilliance, I think.
Solar panels. I am not sure exactly how they work. But if I could find a place with complete solar panels I think I could just detach them and reattach them for my apartment. It would only give me power on sunny days, but it would be more power than I have now. It also might be enough to let me use a freezer or fridge. At the very least it would let me use and charge the power tools to use for big projects. As for batteries, there are plenty of cars everywhere. So maybe I could have some power for the nighttime as well. I know where some solar panels are, but they are rather far away. Unless I plan to drive a truck around, there is no way I could move them here. Finding a solar panel setup close would let me carry it back, even if over a few weeks. The solar idea led me to another good idea.
I was wondering if I could figure out how to wire the solar panels and wished I could go look it up online or get a book. The book idea is not so far-fetched though. The library is somewhat far away, but there are some nearby book stores. One store is actually just down the street from the restaurant I went through. I have no idea what books are in there, but even one book about anything useful would make it worthwhile. Maybe I could find a book on lockpicking or a book on how to grow food indoors. Maybe it would give me some ideas on staying warm through the winter.
I need to go through the third floor first to find out what other supplies I do have. Then it is off to check out some books. Now this storm just needs to let up.
