Entry 57

I suppose two months was a good run for the water to keep working. I have survived without electricity moderately well. I am not sure how to handle no water. I have quite a bit in bottles and the three bathtubs, but I am sure it will go quickly. Getting myself going was a bit slower this morning; by late morning I was finally heading out to search through some apartments.

I quickly realized completely going through eight apartments within a day was not going to happen. I revised my plan to go through at least three. The first apartment proved interesting, not so much because of what I found, but what I did not.

The apartment was in organized disarray and very quickly I realized everything of value for survival had been packed up. In the kitchen I found empty boxes which had once held granola bars, tuna, and chili. There were also empty soda and water cases in the corner of the apartment. In the bedroom there was a small backpack on the bed and an empty safe left open in the closet. Other than some random bits which were probably too heavy to carry whoever lived here had packed up everything worthwhile and gotten out. Wonder if he made it somewhere safer. Or perhaps somewhere nearby is a nice tidy bag full of useful bits.

The next couple of apartments were more normal. I was able to find some bottles of water and soda in both as well as some food. Other than random stuff which might later be useful they did not contain anything exciting. It was getting late enough in the day that I was not sure I should continue with the fourth apartment. I went ahead to see how far I could get before it started to get dark.

Like the last two apartments it had a bit of food and water which I quickly stuffed into the bag. It was still light enough that I moved on to the bedroom. I noticed something interesting I had missed while doing my zombie search: a fish tank! Even more interesting is it was complete with some odd looking fish. I looked inside and saw 5 fish were still quite alive and one had died and was floating at the top.

I dropped my bag off at the apartment and came back to try and move the fish tank. It did not seem particularly large but even after taking out 5 gallons of water, which had a minor impact on the water level, I could not budge it. It was quickly getting dark so I simply fed the fish with the food next to them and headed back.

I have no idea how I can get the fish tank into my room without dropping it. I need to take out a lot of water to move it, but I cannot waste my good water filling it back up. I have no idea why I feel the need to save the fish, but at least it would be something to keep me company.
