Entry 61
The harsh weather seems to be passing. By noon I could see some sun and the clouds were a much less ominous light gray. It afforded me the first chance I could clearly see the damage the hail had had done to the cars in the parking lot. Quite a few cars had side and back windows smashed in and no windshield would qualify as transparent anymore. The hail has me much more worried about this winter. If this is only fall what does winter hold?
Instead of going apartment by apartment carefully as originally planned I decided to look for food, water, and weapons. Those are the most important supplies I can find right now by far. Preparing for whatever winter might bring is more important than any other supplies I am going to find.
None of the other apartments held any exciting mysteries like the first floor. They did have more food and water than expected. I had to unload my supplies before moving to the last three apartments. The second to last apartment was almost exciting. I found a handful of bullets on the floor near an empty box. I spent quite awhile digging through the apartment looking for the gun. It seemed hard to believe someone would have brought their gun but not the bullets. I finally had to give up and move to the last apartment so I could finish before dark.
This apartment had not escaped the wrath of the storm. The one pane of the window had been shattered and the front room floor was sopping wet. It did not appear to have done any substantial damage, but I was worried the open window could cause long term damage. Once I had collected the food from the apartment I headed downstairs to get some tools. I ended up breaking down the dining room table to block off the window. It was a nicer table with leaves that folded out so I was able to completely block off the window with it.
With the apartments cleaned out I can finally focus on preparing for winter. I just wish I had some idea how to do it. I may have to make the trip to the bookstore and hope it has a book which would give me some ideas.
