Entry 6
I woke up this morning as the lights flickered to darkness. My moment of terror eased as the lights came back on, but it made me worry the electricity might not stay on much longer. I am amazed the complex power system still works; perhaps people are still running it. If only the cable was working or I had a radio in the apartment so I could find out what is going on. I have a radio in my car but it might as well be across town. I do not see many of them walking in the streets but one might be more than I could handle. Plus, for every one I can see there are likely many more waiting in the shadows. Thinking about the radio did get me to think about my neighbor's apartment again. I do not know if he had a radio but there should be some food as well as his tools. I just needed some way to get into his apartment.
I spent my day trying to figure out the best way into the apartment. The simplest idea was merely to get to and open his door somehow. I do not know if it is locked or what to do if any of them show up. I set that idea aside as being too risky. My second plan, which I like much better, is to use the saw to cut through the wall into his apartment. Avoiding them seems like the safer choice. Luckily, the apartments have the same layout so I think as long as I avoid places with outlets and water pipes I should be able to go through the wall. Hopefully the walls are the usual drywall over wooden studs with nothing more substantial. The only parts of the plan that worry me are the chance he is now one of them or the door was left open and others have wandered in. I really wish I had paid attention to the door the other day when I was outside. His apartment seems empty as I have not heard any noises from the apartment. The best place to cut through seems to be the wall between my bedroom and his bathroom. It has no outlets or water fixtures and each side has a door I can use in an emergency.
I came out of my bedroom after examining the walls and was surprised to see the sunlight was fading. I quickly cleaned up my food scraps and settled in before it got dark. Not long after I began writing, the lights flickered off again for a moment before coming back on. I am not sure I can handle being left in the blackness knowing my nightmares walk the streets. I wonder... can they see in the dark?
