Entry 54

Big surprise, the mass of zombies remains in a big clump around the door. I cannot tell if they are smart enough to wait or so stupid they do not know how to do anything other than wait. If I had enough ammo I would have happily sat there and dealt with the whole pack. But with what ammo I do have I would not even notice a difference. What I needed was a grenade, or a bomb.

The closest I ever came to making a bomb was putting dry ice in a soda bottle. I figured it could not be too hard to make a real one if I had the right materials. I always read articles about homemade bombs being made by all these bad guys. If they could make a bomb it could not be too hard.

I set about trying to figure out how to make a bomb. One problem is while the news always talked about these bombs, they never actually said what they were made from. Supposedly common household chemicals mixed together could turn into bombs but as I sifted through what I had I could not even pretend to know what to mix. Frustrated, I walked back into my living room and saw the propane camp stove. The propane cylinder is under a lot of pressure and propane is explosive. All I had to do was get a propane tank into the middle of the zombies and shoot it. It might not get all of the zombies but maybe it would be enough to get the others to leave.

My biggest concern was what the zombies might do if they saw me upstairs. Not knowing if they are smart enough to try and climb up here or not was a big risk. What was important was getting the propane tank into the crowd and then being able to get far enough way to be safe, but close enough that I could still shoot it. While I had bad luck shooting the zombie the other day I figured the laser against a non-moving target would make it an easy shot. Yeah, sounds stupid to me as I write it now.

Everything went fine until the shoot it and it explodes part. I put on the sunglasses to help protect my eyes from any shrapnel and then quickly moved out to the walkway and tossed the tank into the zombies. I then turned, ran down the walk, and lay prone. I hoped the walkway would protect me from most of the shrapnel. Once I tried to aim at the cylinder the first flaw was apparent. Zombies are not see-through and I could barely make out the cylinder. As a few broke off trying to find me and others were shifting around I was able to make out the cylinder for a few moments. Finally, I felt I had a good shot and pulled the trigger. I hit a zombie a couple feet to the right and ten feet behind the tank. Carefully bringing the laser dot back on the tank, I held my breath and shot again. This time I did not even a hit a zombie. Instead I managed to hit one of the few spots which was not propane tank or zombie. Frustrated to no end I moved closer to the tank. I did my best to hide as much of my body from the blast and lined up the laser dead center on the tank. This shot hit! Not in the center but it hit the tank. Then the explode part did not work. Instead of exploding the tank spun really fast. It did manage to knock over several zombies, all of which got back up after the spinning stopped.

After I crawled back into the apartment I was almost happy everyone was dead. At least no one was around to see how well that worked. I wasted three bullets and a propane tank to create a distracting top. The only good part is the spinning tank did keep the attention focused away from me. Only a few zombies noticed me and seemed interested in trying to reach me. I assume they were not able to find and use a ladder since none are knocking on my door. It will be interesting tomorrow to see if they all are still at the laundry room door or have moved under the walkway where they saw me. I am not sure which is better.
