Entry 3
Because of yesterday's encounter with my neighbor I managed to sleep less last night than I have been. I was so tired I almost thought yesterday was simply another bad dream. Any doubt I had was erased when I saw the boards where I had dropped them next to the door. I spent quite awhile gathering the courage to look outside to see if she was still there. When I finally did look out I was relieved to see she must have wandered off. I looked up and down the walkway and saw no sign of her or any others and continued to watch for a bit till I felt sure none were nearby.
Without the boards securing the door I was not as sure the door would hold up against them. I needed to put the boards back across the door. The best way to do it was to hit in the nails with big fast hits. I figured it would make a loud sound but I would be done before they could figure out where it came from. After I put the boards back up I peered out through the window to see if any had heard. After a couple minutes it seemed it had worked as there were still none on the walkway.
After I had finished nailing the door shut and had not heard or seen any signs of them, I tried to think of what else I should do. I had heard about what to do in an earthquake or tornado or similar disaster, but nothing really prepared you for this. Most of what you do in a disaster either I could not do or it would be suicide to try. The best I could think to do was put water in the tub in case the water stopped working. I had forgotten I had power until I went to the bathroom and flipped on the light switch out of habit since I was trying to think of other things to do. At night I have been too scared to turn on a light in case they might notice. During the day enough light has come in from the window that I could see well enough inside. The only reason I am able to write this after dark is because I am under the covers with a flashlight. I suppose using a flashlight is not the best choice; it will run out of batteries eventually. Perhaps I can figure out a way to block off the window so I can use the lights.
