A Dead World Title Graphic

Entry 29

A few of the zombies have wandered away but there were still quite a few outside in the morning. With working on the other staircase out of the question I was left turning the utility room into my workshop and taking over the apartments.

After a bit of pondering I ended up moving all the construction supplies and tools into the utility room in a big pile and then set about organizing it with what was already there. It helped me learn everything which was already in the room as well as where it was kept. After I had finished putting away the tools, which took a few hours, I was reaching for the broom when I realized the broom was next to two water heaters.

Growing up my parent's house I remember relighting the water heaters once in awhile when they went out. I figured it could not hurt to check and see if these were lit and if not if I could relight them. The first heater was actually lit; I could see the pilot light quite clearly. The second heater I could not see a pilot light. I grabbed the long lighter I had seen in a drawer and tried to relight the heater. It took a few tries to get it to stay on but finally it stuck and as I turned the knob on it roared to life. I knew it would take awhile to heat up the water so I headed back to my apartment to fix lunch.

After finishing lunch I ran the tap on hot while I washed the dishes. I swore the water was getting warmer as I was finishing but then quickly thought I was just imagining it. I put the dishes away and checked before I shut off the faucet and was met with lukewarm water! A warm bath was the first thought that came to mind.

Since I had to give it more time to heat up I went through 201. I moved random clothes and other items I had no use for into apartment 205's front room. It had become my storehouse for my trash and other unwanted items. I did the same with 202 and by then it was already getting late in the day. I headed back to my apartment looking forward to a warm bath.

I cannot really find the words to explain how nice a warm bath was. I felt truly clean for the first time in over a month and I have not stopped smiling since I first set foot into the warm water. Hot water is awesome.
